Goods brake vans were used to help brake goods trains with wagons lacking remotely-controlled automatic brakes. The train guard rode in the brake van and operated the brake per whistle instructions conveyed by the driver. This van was built for the Egyptian State Railway and was captured by Israel in the 1956 Sinai Campaign.
