These wagons are from a group of Chinese wagons evacuated from Hong Kong by the British army before the Japanese occupation of World War II.

Some 32 vans of this group remained in Israel after 1948 and several more were captured from Egypt in the Sinai.

Israel Railways converted them to carry loose grain, which was loaded through roof ports and discharged by tipping the wagon on to its end.
