Hundreds of similar wagons built in Britain for the French national railway (SNCF) became useless when France fell to Nazi Germany, as they were built to Continental standards (French type OCEM 29).

The British army brought them to the Middle East, where they were known as the "Continental" type. Israel Railways inherited some 150, and operated most of them until the 1970s.
